Thomas Booth sets QLD All-Comers record in 17-year-old boys’ 100m freestyle

QUEENSLAND SC CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024

Day 3 of the 2024 Queensland Championships brought another state all-comers record, this time in the 17-year-old boys’ 100m freestyle.

Southside Aquatics – The water sports center Thomas Booth achieved a new personal best of 48.63 and was the only one of the field to stand at the top of the podium.

The teenager managed to do it with a time of 11.11/12.28/12.70/12.54, beating the previous All-Comers standard of 48.90 set by Andrew Digby over a decade ago in 2011.

Bonds Kalani Creech came next with 50.04 for silver, while Brisbane Grammar’s Edward Nelson completed the podium with 50.41.

Booth won silver in the 50-meter freestyle for 17-year-olds yesterday, finishing 22.41 seconds behind the winner Joshua Conias who set a new all-comers national record of 22.38. Conias did not take part in today’s 100-meter competition.

The 17-year-old girls’ 100 m freestyle also set a new record. Milla Jansen Bond reached 53.15, improving his benchmark for Queensland.

Jansen achieved times of 12.38/13.45/13.68/13.64, beating the field by over 3 seconds. The previous national record was 53.77. Olympic medalist Shayna Jack notched in 2016.

New mom Emily Seebohm was also in the water today and took part in the women’s open 100-meter backstroke.

The 32-year-old Seebohm, representing St. Margaret’s, clocked a time of 59.40 to secure the bronze medal behind the winner Gemma Cooney and runner-up Bronte-Job.

Cooney took the gold medal with a time of 58.88, with Job close behind with a time of 59.40.

Seebohm participated in this year’s Olympic qualifying heats, finishing 7th in the 100m backstroke and 5th in the 200m backstroke.

  • Somerville House Watersports’ Kalani Ireland was too fast to catch him in the men’s 100 m freestyle and took the win with a time of 48.01.
  • 18 years old Hannah Casey achieved a result of 54.23 as the fastest open women’s 100 m freestyle runner. She beat 2 Griffith athletes in Mia O’Leary And Phoebe Bentley which landed at 54.46 and 54.63 respectively.
  • All Saints Day Enoch Robb doubled his impressive victory in the 200m backstroke from last night with another victory in the 100m backstroke. The 19-year-old posted a time of 51.09, narrowly beating second-placed Mark Nikolayev by 0.10. Ireland completed the podium with 52.31. Robb’s winning result beat his previous personal best of 51.39, set just last month, by 0.30.
  • Ireland topped the podium in the men’s 100m butterfly with a time of 51.91, a narrow win ahead of Robb, who finished next to the wall with a time of 51.92.
