Country music legend Reba McEntire shared an incredible encounter with God she had after stepping away from her busy life and devoting herself to peace and quiet.

“We’re a species that can take anything, can take anything, can take anything, and we want to be active – do everything we can – but there comes a point where we hit that wall,” McEntire told Drew Barrymore. “So being still allows me to rejuvenate and recharge my batteries.”

In that room, McEntire felt the Lord speaking to her and guiding her to write a song that pointed back to Him.

“I’ve gotten into this little bubble, this little sanctuary where you can go out and feed the donkeys and the longhorns and the horses and see the cats and walk along the creek. It recharges me and grounds me with nature,” McEntire said.

“You hear the birds and then you appreciate it and then you see God’s beauty and God’s wonder, but the best part is you hear what God is trying to tell you,” she continued. “The most amazing thing happened to me; one time I was walking and I was talking to the Lord and I asked, ‘What do you want me to do?’ He said, ‘Pray for peace.’ I just heard it, as if I could hear it.”

“I said, OK, dokie, so I prayed for peace for the next week. Then I said, ‘What do you want me to do, Lord?’ and he said, ‘Sing it.’ And I said, ‘Well, pray for peace, that’s just three words, I don’t know how to do that.’ And so I wrote a song. And after I wrote the song, I said, ‘What do you want me to do with it?’ He said, ‘Record it.’ And I recorded it, and it was just the greatest gift to me,” McEntire added. “So if I had been in the very fast-paced world that I live in, I would have never experienced that.”

While most of us don’t have a ranch to retreat to for relaxation, McEntire’s story is still a great reminder of what the Lord can do when we give Him the space to speak to us.

The country star frequently speaks about her faith, admitting that although she was not “raised religious,” faith has become an important part of her life, especially as a touring musician.

“It was big, deep conversations with Him in the back of a tour bus while I was crying and homesick,” McEntire said. “I want to go home because I’ve called home and everyone’s in the kitchen laughing and joking around and I’m alone with my band members and crew, but it’s not the same as being with your immediate family. So the Lord and my angels have been the ones watching over me the whole time.”

She is also preparing for the release of her new sitcom HAPPY’S PLACE, which premieres on NBC on October 18.

“It will be so heartfelt, funny, witty, we’ll laugh at our silliness. But our show will also touch your heart,” McEntire said.

Country star Reba McEntire is relying on her faith as she hosts the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards this year before filming begins on NBC’s newest sitcom HAPPY’S PLACE.

This isn’t McEntire’s first time hosting the ACM Awards. She also hosted in 2010. This year’s show will mark her 17th return to the stage since winning the Entertainer of the Year award nearly thirty years ago. During her hosting duties, she will also perform her latest single, “I Can’t.”

“I really enjoy the awards show, so I don’t have any rituals (before the show),” she said in an Instagram post. “I don’t have to do anything before I go out except pray. I ask the Holy Spirit to walk for me, speak for me, speak for me and sing for me. And that always gives me the confidence to make the first move and have a good time.”
