‘This is ugly’: Teofimo Lopez Sr. breaks his silence on Devin Haney’s punching of a civilian at the Southern California fair

Devin Haney is in the news for all the wrong reasons. Not long ago, “The Dream” was filmed punching an unnamed man at the Orange County State Fair in California. To make matters worse, he attempted to flee the scene. Haney has been in the news since his loss to Ryan Garcia on April 20, which was later converted into a non-appearance due to numerous penalties for the consumption of the banned substance Ostarine.

The defeat Haney suffered during his fight against Garcia, coupled with the desperation he has shown to restore his undefeated record since Garcia’s PED scandal, has cast the 25-year-old boxer’s reputation in a questionable light. With that in mind, WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez’s father, Teofimo Lopez Sr., hinted in a recent interview that Haney could be drawn into more confrontations until he can avenge the loss to Garcia.

Teofimo Sr. believes that boxing fans will not let Haney forget his behavior after Ryan Garcia was caught consuming the banned substance Ostarine. “The way he tried to get the 0 back will haunt him,” claimed Lopez Senior.

In addition to putting pressure on the relevant authorities to impose the strictest punishment on Garcia, Haney also stated in an interview with ESPN that he would not give Ryan Garcia a rematch. In addition, Haney officially requested the NYSAC to annul his loss to Garcia. The request was eventually accepted and the fight against Garcia was declared null and void.

Teofimo Lopez Sr. spoke more about Haney’s current predicament, adding: “Everyone’s just going to bully him. It’s ugly, dude, it’s going to keep happening. People are going to yell at him and he’s just got to stay tough.”

For the Honduran native, the only way for Haney to save face is to avenge his loss to Garcia. “He has to come back and try again with Garcia,” Lopez Sr. suggested. In a now-deleted post, Devin Haney explained the reason for his sneaky punch against the trade show attendee.
