This epic moment from Matthew Judon on the sideline shows his value to the Patriots

New England Patriots edge rusher Matthew Judon was not on the football field with his team during the season opener on Thursday, but coached his teammates on the sidelines.

The four-time Pro Bowler was caught on camera teaching outside linebacker Oshane Ximines a lesson, a moment that showed why Judon is so valuable to the football team even as it focuses more on youth and rebuilding the roster.

There is still a place for experienced players who can lead by example on and off the field, and Judon could be one such player for the newly formed Patriots team.

The Patriots and Judon are currently at an impasse with his contract expiring in 2025. It would be perfect if both sides could simply agree to an extension and put all the business talk behind them.

However, it would make even more sense for the Patriots to sweeten Judon’s current contract and return to the negotiating table after the season to build trust and build a bridge to a possible extension at a later date.

Judon could have simply picked up his ball and gone home, but he has already stated that he will hold on and play out the final year of his contract. It’s not like the Patriots are strapped for cash, especially after their failed trade for disgruntled San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

If or when a reasonable deal is possible, they should make it with Judon.
