Studiio Dangg, an architecture firm led by Manav Dangg, has designed an unconventional and quirky cafe in Delhi. Inspired by English post offices and the magical ambience of Harry PotterWith the construction of King’s Cross station, they created a unique space that combines reality and fantasy. The Post Office, a 250 square metre cafe and bar, captures the essence of recognisable design styles while incorporating details that evoke a sense of fiction. “This mix creates a true sense of wonder and nostalgia, making you feel like you’re in a movie, but it’s real,” says Manav.
The design process blended vintage charm with imaginative elements. For example, the four-meter-high ceiling was crucial in creating an ambience reminiscent of a vintage Cuban bar, with high, vaulted ceilings accentuated with bright colors and a visually rich, colonial-inspired backdrop. In addition, elements were inspired by Harry Potter enriches the design – shiny black tiled walls are reminiscent of the Department of Mysteriesintricate floor patterns reminiscent of Gringotts, quirky lighting similar to that at Hogwarts, and a palette that reflects the different colors of the houses’ common rooms, which is also reflected in the washrooms.

The cafe’s entrance is through a charming veranda that also serves as a waiting area. Upon entering, guests are greeted by twelve-foot-tall arched double doors adorned with intricate, ornate metal details, inviting them into the fantastical world. The high-rise seating at the entrance is set against a backdrop of wooden louvre shutters. On the right, a wall of brass mailboxes reminiscent of colonial post offices, with details reminiscent of an antique safe lock, adds a special accent. The vaulted ceiling embroidered with intricate moldings is the highlight of the space. At night, this ceiling is illuminated, creating an immersive experience akin to entering a Roman museum. Throughout this Delhi cafe, intricate moldings conceal running lights that enhance the ambience. All were supplied by White Lighting Solutions.
