Crystals of Naramunz comes to Gamescom 2024

with new game name Crystalfall

Crystals of Naramunz, now renamed Crystalfall, is an upcoming loot-based hack-and-slash ARPG set in a post-apocalyptic steampunk world.

Umeå, Sweden – August 15, 2024 – With the goal of creating a more memorable game title that better represents its origin story, game studio CRG announces the renaming of its upcoming steampunk ARPG. Crystals of Naramunz To Crystalfall.

In 2021 the development of the game Crystalfall (previously Crystals of Naramunz) began with a core team of ARPG veterans. The team and game have since grown, running a successful closed beta in June 2024 with 222 players participating. The playtest was met with an overwhelmingly positive response, with an astonishing 62% retention on day one and an average play time of 5 hours per player per day.

The original name, Crystals of Naramunzwas initially a working title. “As we approach the Open Beta release, we decided it was time to reveal a name that better fits the game’s vision and narrative,” said Creative Director Daniil Sanders. “As development progresses and our game continues to evolve, we felt it was important to introduce a final name that truly reflects the essence of our story and world.”

During development, the game underwent a visual transformation, moving from a cartoonish, vibrant art style to a darker mix of steampunk and art deco. “The darker atmosphere adds an element of danger and mystery,” explains Sanders, which fits with the themes the story is built on. “You start out as a convict who has lost his memory, and your job is to figure out what happened to you and the world around you.”

CEO Åke André and his team agreed that the new title Crystalfall would better tell the story of how the game world came into being, through a cataclysmic event called the Nexus, where a giant crystal with mysterious powers crashed into the planet where the game is set, turning it into a post-apocalyptic ruin.

In CrystalfallPlayers take on the role of mutated animal hybrids created by this event and fight their way through dungeons in search of crystals that give them unique powers. Similar to Path of Exile And Diablo2The game progresses in seasons, at the end of which the Nexus strikes again, wiping out all characters and items – all except the sealed Aethereals.

Ethereal items are the most powerful items in the game. They are imbued with the power of crystals and have unique properties. Players who wish to trade them outside of the game can seal them at a special vendor, allowing them to survive seasonal resets and be traded on the open market.

At Gamescom this year, CRG will show how loot-based ARPG games like Crystalfall can benefit from Web3 integration. Crystalfall is a free-to-play, loot-based hack-and-slash action RPG set in a post-apocalyptic steampunk world, centuries after a global catastrophe known as The Nexus. Players take on the role of various heroes and explore a world filled with ruins, dungeons, and powerful relics. Inspired by Diablo And Path of Exile, Crystalfall offers an exciting gaming experience with high replay value thanks to extensive items, power progression, seasonal resets and multiplayer features. The open beta is planned for December 2024.
