The trendy cabinet color choice of the Good Bones stars gives every kitchen a modern update

If you’re even remotely familiar with home decor trends, you’ll know that shades of blue are all the rage right now, especially in furniture. Two HGTV stars who probably aren’t surprised by this are “Good Bones” stars, mother-daughter duo Karen E. Laine and Mina Starsiak Hawk. After all, they incorporated the color into one of their most memorable projects a few years ago.

Fans of “Good Bones” probably remember that Laine and Starsiak Hawk commissioned custom-painted moody blue kitchen cabinets in the show’s third season (which aired in 2018). While Starsiak Hawk told the homeowners that it was a huge risk at the time, it was definitely worth it. In fact, one of the homeowners’ reactions to the new cabinets was, “I’m obsessed with it” (via HGTV), and it’s hard to get much better than that. Fast forward a few years, blue cabinets have become a staple in many homes, and even celebrities have tweaked the trend and tried it out in their spaces. Case in point: Kendall Jenner’s striking teal kitchen cabinets. Again, no surprise.

In short, according to kitchen furniture manufacturers, shades of blue are the current trend, and the stars of Good Bones were ahead of their time. The great thing is that you can easily bring this trend into your own home, even if you’re not a star or can’t be on Good Bones. No more boring kitchens!

It’s easy to bring Good Bones blue cabinets into your kitchen

When Mina Starsiak Hawk and Karen E. Laine chose blue cabinets for Good Bones, it was still a fairly novel concept, so it’s understandable that they had to go the custom route. If you’re willing to do that, you can still do it. But one big advantage of blue cabinets becoming increasingly popular is that they’re now offered as is by numerous paint manufacturers.

First off, there’s Benjamin Moore’s teal that was used in Kendall Jenner’s home, which retails for around $82 per gallon on the brand’s website. Alternatively, for something more budget-friendly, there’s Rust-Oleum, which is a very similar shade, available on Amazon for just under $18. Otherwise, head to your local paint store to see if anything else catches your eye.

No matter which brand of paint you choose, you can be sure that blue kitchen cabinets will add a pop of color to your kitchen. Speaking of the rest of your kitchen, if you need ideas on how to make the most of the new color, you can take a cue from Starsiak Hawk and Laine’s Good Bones project and use granite countertops, although hardwood and gray marble also pair best with blue kitchen cabinets. Either way, your kitchen is guaranteed to be on trend and Good Bones approved!
