NEW YORK – A Little League team from Staten Island is on its way to the World Series.

South Shore Little League handed New Jersey’s Morristown Little League its first loss of the summer, defeating them 5-0 in the Metro Region championship game on Friday. Peter Giaccio’s two-run triple in the sixth inning capped a week in which he scored nine runs in four games.

Staten Island improved to 17-2 this summer.

This is the South Shore Little League’s fourth appearance in the Little League World Series.

In a post on Facebook, Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella said, in part, “Continue to make great memories and make Staten Island proud. We are all behind you.”

“This is a home run for South Shore Little League! They are on their way to the Little League World Series and we are all rooting for them.” Mayor Eric Adams wrote on X.

Staten Island Little League team competes in the World Series against a team from Nevada

The South Shore Little League will face the Paseo Verde Little League from Nevada on Thursday, August 15th at 3 p.m.

We’re having a watch party here at the Fast Break basketball facility on Richmond Valley Road in Tottenville. Admission is free and food will be provided. Doors open at 2 p.m.

The South Shore Little League isn’t the only New York team heading to Williamsport, Pennsylvania this month. The Yankees play against the Detroit Tigers at historic Bowman Field for the MLB Little League Classic on Sunday, August 18.
