The Sunday Summer Fun Day in Perry Village was celebrated as a success

The Sunday Summer Fun Day in Perry Village was celebrated as a success

The second annual Perry Village Sunday Summer Fun Day provided plenty of entertainment for guests who stopped by the free event.

This was the assessment of Mike Glover, chairman of the Perry Village Parks Committee.

Glover, who also serves on the Perry Township Council, took a moment at the board’s Aug. 8 meeting to reflect on Sunday Summer Fun Day.

The event, sponsored by the Parks Committee and Perry Town Council, was held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on July 14 at the village’s Lee Lydic Park.

Glover estimated that about 150 people attended the seasonal celebration.

“It was nice to see how much fun the children had,” he said.

On Sunday Summer Fun Day, visitors had the opportunity to participate in a variety of water activities. Attractions include a 26-foot water slide and a medium-sized splash pool.

Children’s pools with various water toys were also set up for the youngest participants of the event.

In addition, visitors had the opportunity to blow bubbles and play with popular summer toys such as Frisbees and hula hoops.

The event also invited visitors to showcase their talents in various ways. Activities included karaoke for children, a sidewalk chalk drawing competition for children and a limbo competition for teens and adults.

Popcorn, lemonade and popsicles were also offered to guests looking for a snack or drink.

Glover expressed his gratitude to the volunteers who worked in the park between 9:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on an extremely hot and humid day.

“Next year we would like to try to recruit a few more volunteers,” he said.

The Parks Committee is made up of council members and village residents who are not involved in township government as legislators or administrators. One of the group’s goals was to organize community-wide events that would bring more people to Lee Lydic Park throughout the year.

Other new events the board has created at Lee Lydic Park include Earth Day Family Fun Day and Fall Family Fun Day.
