The scenic and challenging Isle of Wight Half Marathon returns this Sunday (18 August) with a route that winds through picturesque countryside.

The race, organised by Ryde Harriers, starts at 11am with start and finish lines at Appley Park.

Runners complete two laps of a route that includes a mix of tarmac roads and off-road gravel tracks around Ryde and the surrounding area.

The route takes competitors through Ryde, Bullen Lane, Goddard’s Farm Lane and Attrill’s Lane before heading to Nettlestone and then back to Bullen Lane to begin the second lap.

The route also includes sections through Whitefield Woods and Carpenters Road.

All runners can expect clear markers at each mile point, and water stations are strategically placed at approximately 5km intervals.

Since only 300 places are available, there is still a chance for those who missed the online registration deadline to participate.

Runners can register in person on the day of the event and pay a fee of £20 (club members) or £23 (non-club members).

At the 2023 Half Marathon, Dan Eckersley of the Ryde Harrier crossed the finish line first with a time of one hour, 11 minutes and 17 seconds.

This year’s half marathon medal is made from recycled glass and features a vibrant color print.
