The Santa Barbara County Farm Day is taking place for the sixth time

Santa Barbara County Farm Day is presented by Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG).

For the sixth year, more than ten agricultural organizations and farms in Santa Barbara County invited the public to a day of free activities and tours.

“This is a great opportunity for locals to get to know the ranches that they don’t normally see on a daily basis and to see all the animals and everything that goes into community life,” says Mellisa Caudillo, a volunteer with Growing Minds Farm Education.

On a dirt road in Buellton, Growing Minds Farm Education participated in Santa Barbara County Farm Day for the first time this year. Visitors were able to pick vegetables, shop and visit Cupcake the cow.

Growing Minds Farm is a nonprofit organization that invites people of all abilities to learn by doing.

“We really hope that as the children learn more about life on the farm and the contribution of each animal to the food chain and so on, that they will at least develop a better understanding of how the world works,” said Michael Reid, chairman of Growing Minds Farm Education. “So we place a lot of emphasis on that kind of educational component.”
