Some awards shows like to give out awards for the worst moments of the year, but not everyone is willing to actually accept the award, let alone pick up the trophy in person. However, in some very rare cases, the person not only expects to win the award, but actually shows up to pick it up. Such is the case of the president of CrowdStrike, who won an award for the “biggest fail” of the year… and picked up the trophy in person.

CrowdStrike President Accepts Award for Most Epic Fail at Def Con

Discovered by TechCrunchThe awards ceremony took place during this year’s Def Con. If you’ve never heard of it, Def Con is a conference dedicated to hackers and their work. This includes a “Capture the Flag” event where hackers must protect a vulnerable system while simultaneously launching attacks on their opponents’ machines.

During Def Con, the organizers gave out prizes, including one for the “Epic Fail.” Apparently, the organizers of the awards ceremony had another company in mind, but then had to make a quick revision after CrowdStrike brought the world’s digital infrastructure to its knees.

Coincidentally, CrowdStrike had a booth at Def Con to give away free t-shirts and action figures as a sign of respect for hackers. CrowdStrike President Michael Sentonas was in attendance. When the company won the award, Michael walked onto the stage and accepted it with great humility.

After causing millions of dollars in lost business and previously attempting to make things right with a $10 gift card, it’s good to see that CrowdStrike is working hard to restore its reputation in the cybersecurity world. If it plays its card right, the world could soon laugh at its past mistake and things will go back to the way they were.
