As Juventus faced Atlético Madrid for their final friendly of the summer, what was perhaps most apparent was just how incomplete this squad still is, despite their season opener being just a week away.
While one or two new signings won’t solve the problem immediately, they could fill some glaring gaps that still need to be filled.
The biggest of these was the pursuit of Teun Koopmeiners, which took its final twist last week when Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini said the 26-year-old Dutchman wanted to join Juventus. This is the turning point Juve may have been waiting for, as talks seem to have flared up again around the same time.
Add in Fiorentina’s Nico Gonzalez, the first of what is expected to be several wingers to be signed before the end of the summer mercato, and Juve could be on the verge of making some important transfers as we all wait to see if the team has any depth at the start of September.
