Mat Ishbia has already shown in his first year as owner of the Phoenix Suns that he is willing to spend a lot of money.

Phoenix has the NBA’s highest payroll for the 2024-25 season at $227.6 million. Combined with the estimated luxury tax of nearly $200 million, the Suns are the first NBA team to earn $400 million.

The majority of their payroll is tied to three players – Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal and Devin Booker. They have three of the top ten highest-paid NBA players for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Durant and Beal rank fourth and fifth, respectively, behind Stephen Curry, Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid. Booker, Durant and Beal will earn a combined $150.5 million this season.

Jusuf Nurkic is Phoenix’s fourth-highest-paid player this season at $18,125.00, putting him at No. 96 on the list of highest-paid NBA players for 2024-25. He is in the third year of a four-year, $70 million contract he signed in Portland.

Booker is in the first year of his four-year, $220 million supermax contract. Durant has two years remaining on the four-year, $194 million deal he signed with Brooklyn, but he is eligible for a one-year, $59.7 million extension for the 2026-27 season.

Beal has three years left on the five-year, $251 million contract he signed with Washington. The Suns traded Durant, Beal and Nurkic in Ishbia’s first year as team owner.

Phoenix finished its first year with the Big 3 of Booker, Durant and Beal 49-33 to secure sixth place in the West, but was the first team eliminated in last season’s playoffs. Minnesota swept the Suns in the first round.

The Suns open the 2024–25 season on October 23 at the Los Angeles Clippers.
