The Old Lady Speaks podcast, episode 245: The Thiago Motta era at Juventus begins in a big way

The Old Lady Speaks podcast, episode 245: The Thiago Motta era at Juventus begins in a big way

One matchday is over, 37 more to go.

And boy, what a beautiful and refreshing opening matchday of the 2024-25 season it was.

Thiago Motta’s debut as Juventus coach went quite well. The 3-0 win over Serie A newcomers Como was just the beginning of the positive atmosphere that emanated from the Bianconeri’s season opener. Motta’s signature was often visible, and some of the biggest surprises in the starting lineup – most notably 20-year-old Belgian winger Samuel Mbangula – made the coach’s bold decisions look like the right ones.

It was just a small step in a season that still has so many twists and turns in store.

But on the first night of the season, Juventus looked damn good. And it was entertaining too.

In episode 245 of the podcast “The Old Lady Speaks” we discuss:

  • The return of post-game takeaways!
  • Juventus’ victory against Como showed many good things from the start. We discuss some of them.
  • Thoughts on the first impression of Thiago Motta.
  • Kenan Yildiz was pretty good against Como and made it clear how important he is to Motta and this new era at Juventus.
  • Twitter questions – including an either/or between Teun Koopmeiners and Nico Gonzalez, how willing we are to bet on Samuel Mbangula after his impressive debut, how confident some of the ‘out of project’ players are that they will return, whether Juventus should keep Kenan Yildiz in central defence and what to make of Weston McKennie’s return to the squad.
