MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – We live in the digital age and most people do their tasks online or with the help of technology, but there is one book that many people still use every day.

The Old Farmers Almanac 2025 was published. It still serves as a guide for many farmers around the world today.

Founded in 1792, it offers advice on many topics, such as when is the best time to plant a crop or even when to cut your hair.

News 11 wanted to find out how the almanac works, so we spoke to the owner of Planter’s Supply to learn more.

“The Farmers Almanac actually takes into account lunar events, the moon and all that, and bases everything on when you need to plant, dig a hole, cut your hair, go fishing, or whatever. It’s all based on lunar events and is supposed to remain a closely guarded secret, you know? But everyone has their own interpretation of it,” said Planter’s Supply owner Griffin Parker.

While farmers often take the almanac very seriously, others do not pay much attention to it.

“I’m not a big almanac fan, man. I never paid attention to it. When I’m ready to do something, I do it. Like some people, when they go ahead and castrate dens and stuff, or let’s see what the sign means, you know, and dehorn or plant gardens or something. But I never did anything. When it comes time to do it, I do it,” Steve Parker said.
