The New Orleans Public Library has a total of seven book clubs at different locations and with different thematic focuses.

There are two meetings this week.

This month the book club is reading 2BR02B by Kurt Vonnegut and The Electric Ant by Philip K. Dick. The library is located at 5120 St Charles Ave.

On August 28, the Mid-City Library Speculative Fiction Book Club meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 4140 Canal St.

The club discusses “Remote Control” by Nnedi Okorafor.

Tune in on August 21 at 6 p.m. to learn more about Van Pelt’s enchanting book, which has sold over 1.5 million copies since its publication in 2022.

It’s an exploration of friendship, reckoning, hope and much more, and reminds us that a critical look into the past can sometimes reveal a future that once seemed impossible.

Attorney Jonathan Reynolds will lead the program, which is presented in partnership with the nonprofit legal organization Louisiana Appleseed.

PRENATAL MOVEMENT: Every Friday in August, pregnant women are invited to a prenatal movement and meditation workshop from 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Algiers Regional Library, 3014 Holiday Drive.

Classes are taught by Shanda Domango Brown, founder of Domango Training.

The program is designed to help children explore their senses and learn in a fun and engaging way through stories, sensory bins and more.

Sensory Storytime is sponsored by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and supported by the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library. Space is limited. For more information, visit events.nolalibrary.org.
