The most important ESG highlights from the first half of the 2024 F1 season

Great Britain

Formula 1 welcomed 16 of its Engineering Scholars from the UK and Italy to Silverstone where they enjoyed a full day of unique experiences, including tours of the paddock and garage, and a networking event with Formula 1-supported charity Mission 44.

In addition, with the support of Make-A-Wish, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Race Against Dementia, Formula 1 raised over £60,000 for their respective charities and we welcomed seriously ill children and their families to the paddock for behind-the-scenes tours.

Silverstone continues to increase its efforts to power the event through multiple renewable energy sources and aims to achieve a 50% waste recycling rate throughout the event. There was also a dedicated sustainability-focused fan area called the Zero Zone to educate and engage fans on the issue.

Hungary

Local organisation, the Institute for the Blind, and students were given tours of the paddock and team garages. They also had the chance to meet their F1 heroes and take part in a special Fan Zone activity which showcased art in Braille.

Numerous activities in the fan zone were geared towards sustainability and educated fans on the topic. These included recycling “vote stations” and information on the circuit’s sustainable development goals. The low-carbon energy generation system that Formula 1 will use in Austria in 2023 and 2024, which saves over 90% of CO2 emissions when powering the pit and paddock areas, was unveiled for the first time at the Hungaroring.
