The Lubbock Book Fest brings together 41 authors and supports Lubbock’s literacy

This weekend there will be an exciting event where 41 authors from a variety of genres will come to Lubbock to support Literacy Lubbock.

The 2024 Lubbock Book Festival will be held Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. at the Overton Hotel, 2322 Mac Davis Lane. This is the fourth festival and proceeds go to Literacy Lubbock, which offers classes, promotes reading and improves the community.

This year’s festival features 41 authors, six vendors, activities and five workshops.

Here’s a look at the authors and their genres:

  • Dr. Greg Bower, a western author known for the “A Man Reborn: A Jesse Coltharp Western” series.
  • Amy Briggs, a romance author who draws on her experiences as a firefighter in the trilogy “The Brotherhood of District 23.”
  • Russel Camp is a novelist who incorporates realism into his books and recently published Stories from My Notes.
  • Sterling Chaney, author and illustrator of “Dave Gets A Turtle.”
  • Children’s author Jennifer Coleman has written several books set in Texas, including The Texas Nutcracker.
  • Drea Denae, a romance author known for the Blisshaven Academy series.
  • Mary Flint is the author of the Red Star trilogy.
  • Larissa Gail, a romance author known for the Love in Oaktown and Love in the Rockies series.
  • AR Hall, a romance author with several series including Agents of Norse and The Lavendar Coven.
  • Patrick Hanford is a crime and thriller writer, known for “The Creation of Marla Adams: Just When You Thought It Was Safe”.
  • William L. Harben is the author of I’ve Been Waiting, which follows an undercover detective on a quest to solve a mystery.
  • Anne Kneese, author and illustrator of “The Missing Colors of the Rainbow”.
  • Eliza Lainn is an author known for the series “The Einherjar Games” and “Apparition Investigation.” Her latest series, “Daughter of Daylight,” delves into the romance genre.
  • KA Linde, author of romance and fantasy for young adults. Linde’s titles include the Royal Houses series and the Wright series.
  • Mari Mancusi, author of books for middle grades and children. Mancusi has written for Disney, including a series of “Frozen.” Other books include “New Dragon City” and “Dragon Ops.”
  • Rodney McWilliams is the author of the Triskellion Saga, a paranormal fantasy with action, adventure and mystery.
  • Melissa Mendez is the author of the bilingual book “Sabor Caribe”.
  • Jeannette Denise Miller, a religious author known for the Grace series.
  • Desi Morgue is a dark romance author who will make her debut with “’Til Death” on November 28th.
  • Dean Myers, author of “A Day in the Life of Waverly Waters.”
  • Shannon Myers, a romance author known for the Silent Phoenix MC series.
  • Thomas J. Nichols is a retired police officer who writes police docudramas, espionage and international intrigue.
  • Mallory Rae is the author of “Duck Dive.”
  • Jill Ramsover is a romance author known for her mafia romances, including The Byrne Brothers and Moretti Malice series.
  • Monique Randle is the author of Benjamin Goes to School: The Benjamin Series, An I Can Do Anything Book.
  • Cathlin Shahriary, a young adult author known for the ongoing series “The Fae Realm.”
  • Liam Shay is the author of The Grizzly Extinction Plot.
  • Jacqueline E. Smith is the author of the series “The Lurking” and “Boy Band”.
  • Dianne Smithwick-Braden, a crime writer known for the Wilbarger County series.
  • Dan Dwayne Spencer, a crime writer with several short stories.
  • Jenni Stand is the author of Mad Money & Murder, a supernatural private investigator crime novel set in San Antonio.
  • Lance Stanford, the author of Midnight Signs and Timmly the Time Teddy and the Totally Awesome Tea Party.
  • Cristena Stephens, a historical nonfiction author, has written her latest title, “Bound in Silence: An Unsolved Murder in a Small Texas Town.”
  • James Stoddard, the science fiction author of The Evenmere Chronicles.
  • Brandi Willis Schreiber, an author and poet of fiction and non-fiction titles.
  • Marilyn Wragg is a writer of religious themes.

The workshops will take place in the CH Boardroom. The planned workshops are:

  • 12:00–12:45: “The 4 Most Common Mistakes New Writers Make and How to Avoid Them” by ME Carter.
  • 1:00 p.m.-1:45 p.m.: “An Informal Writing Guide to Improvisation: Writing Habits of a Type-A Panster” by Drea Denae.
  • 2:00 p.m.–2:45 p.m.: “The Psychology of Character Motivation” by Justin Rivas.
  • 3:00 p.m.–3:45 p.m.: “The Writer’s Way: How to Navigate the World of Publishing” by James Stoddard.
  • 4:00 p.m.–4:45 p.m.: “From Pages to Panels: The Challenges of Comic Book Storytelling” by Lance Stanford.

Vendors include Blurb Books, Desert Goddess Co., Get Reelisms, Lubbock Public Library, Moon Bound Press, LLC, and Stoney Creek Publishing.

Children ages 12 and younger are free. Adult tickets are $10 and student tickets are $5. Tickets can be purchased at 2024-lbf.raiselysite.com.
