Wheel of Fortune, Danger!, Family dispute, The price is hot, Let’s make a deal and so on. A successful game show — network or syndicated — can last for decades. And when it ends (if it ever does), it will eventually come back as a reboot. In other words, it’s not that often that you hear about a brand new game show format being given the go-ahead by networks nationwide as part of its first run in syndication.

Today there is news from one.

The name of the slimmed down (Monday to Friday) game show is Downsidethe host is Jaleel White, the distributor is CBS Media Ventures, and the newbie pits two teams of players against each other to test how they think two different groups of people think about the same topic. The teams compete for $10,000 by guessing the best answers to anonymous polls.

Downside makes its national premiere on CBS on Monday, September 9th.

Jaleel White is of course firmly anchored in pop culture as Steve Urkel on Family matters. But he also hosted two seasons of Total blackoutwas a regular celebrity guest at 25 words or less And Pictionaryand set a record for most points scored in the bonus round on Family feud between celebrities.

Did he do that? Yes, he did!

Downside is a Game Show Enterprises Studios production for CBS Media Ventures with Jay James, Corin Nelson and Rich Sirop as executive producers. T. Jones serves as co-executive producer. Cleve Keller and Dave (Keller/Noll) and Ken Ross serve as executive producers.
