JACKSON, Mississippi (WLBT) – Farish Forward Fest concluded the free two-day event Sunday night with a music festival on Farish Street.

Dozens of people brought lawn chairs, tents and umbrellas to enjoy the food, music and fun.

Performers included Nick Allen, Stephanie Luckett and Willie Clayton, among others, and there were several booths and food trucks for attendees to enjoy local and national talent.

Event organizer and founder Aikisha Holly Colon organizes the annual event to bring life back to Farish Street.

“It’s for the community. It’s for anyone who believes in our business or the redevelopment and revitalization of this area. So I’m glad people like it. We want more,” Colon said.

The festival began on Saturday with an exhibition on topics ranging from health to entertainment.

Cast members of the Jackson-based reality TV show Belle Collective were present for both days of the festival and said they are grateful to organizers for bringing the community together. They also believe events like this festival are what is needed to rebuild the community.

“This is a good thing we do here as a community to be able to give back, have fun, relive the good old days and just enjoy it here,” said JJ Williams.

“You know, we can talk about revitalizing Farish Street, but today we are showing action. We are bringing the spotlight to Farish Street and we want all of our Jackson, Mississippi residents to join us in making this and future events special,” said Sophia Williams.

The organizers hope to repeat the event next year.
