GRAND ISLAND, Nebraska (KSNB) – Grand Island voters have until 5 p.m. Tuesday to cast their ballots for the Good Life District special absentee ballot election.

They should be delivered in person to the Hall County Elections Office or dropped into the secure drop box in the Hall County Administration Building at 121 S. Pine.

Hall County Election Commissioner Tracy Overstreet said any ballot returned without a valid signature and valid photo ID will be rejected.

As of Monday evening, 94 ballots had been rejected, she said. Voters whose ballots were rejected were called if a phone number was listed on their ballot envelope or voter registration.

These voters have until 5:00 p.m. to correct their ballot by presenting a signature or valid identification to the Hall County Elections Office.

The Hall County Elections Office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday to accept ballots and assist voters who need to correct their ballot.

The first results will be announced after the end of the election at 5 p.m.

Overstreet said there would be updated results later in the evening and the counting was expected to be completed by 8 p.m.

These results are unofficial until any provisional ballots are processed in the days following the election.

Official final results will be available no later than August 21. The one-week delay has been standard protocol since the passage of Nebraska’s voter ID law, which took effect on April 1.

In Nebraska, elections cannot be certified until after a seven-day retention period for any provisional ballots cast without a valid photo ID.
