The controversial Ubisoft game finally appears on Steam with a big discount

Skull and Bones is now available on Steam. Although its debut on Valve’s storefront was delayed quite a bit, the game has at least appeared on Steam with a hefty launch discount.

Skull and Bones was originally released on February 16 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. However, the PC version was initially only available through the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft’s own store.

Skull and Bone Docks on Steam with 60% introductory discount

More than half a year later, the pirate action-adventure game has finally appeared on Steam, where it arrived on Thursday, August 22nd. While Steam users had to wait longer to be able to play it, Ubisoft is rewarding them for their patience with a rather substantial launch discount of 60%, bringing the price of the game down to $24. The offer also applies to the Skull and Bones Deluxe and Premium editions, currently available for $30 and $36, respectively. This introductory discount is valid for two weeks, until September 5th.


Despite the generous launch discount, the game had a fairly modest launch on Steam, landing at number 37 on the store’s top sellers list. Early user reviews are 57% positive, which puts it in the “Mixed” category. This is in line with Skull and Bones‘ critical reception that was quite disappointing at launch. As of August 2024, the game still holds a “weak” rating on OpenCritic, based on its overall score of 60 and an 11% recommendation rate from reviewers.


Steam trial version of Skull and Bones has been postponed

Despite the not so impressive reviews, Skull and Bones The game reportedly managed to attract around 850,000 players shortly after its release in February 2024. However, this number is said to have been inflated by the eight-hour free trial that Ubisoft is offering from day one. Although the demo version of the game is also set to appear on Valve’s store, Ubisoft has postponed the August 21 launch without further explaining the reasons behind this decision or setting a new release date.

A new ship, nicknamed the Battle Junk, is also part of the package and can be unlocked by progressing through the Smuggler’s Pass.
