KRAFTON is currently giving away The Callisto Protocol for free on the Epic Games Store for a limited time. From August 22nd to August 29th, PC players can visit the game’s EGS page and claim their free copy.
The Callisto Protocol is a third-person horror action-adventure game. The game combines gunplay and hand-to-hand combat, allowing players to face rapidly evolving creatures. Additionally, players can scavenge to unlock new weapons and equipment that will help them escape the growing threat of Jupiter’s Dead Moon.
The Callisto Protocol was powered by Unreal Engine 4 and was one of the best-looking games of 2022. However, the game suffered from some annoying shader compilation stutters at launch. And while the developers fixed them, the game still had some optimization issues (especially with regard to the ray tracing implementation).
Even though The Callisto Protocol wasn’t as good as Dead Space, I still really enjoyed it. I honestly don’t think it’s a bad game. It just couldn’t live up to the original Dead Space. Plus, it came out at the same time as the Dead Space remake, which meant it had a lot of competition.
Striking Distance Studios has supported the game with some cool free updates. In January 2023, we got a New Game+ mode. Then in February 2023, the developers added a Hardcore mode. And finally, in April 2023, the game got a Dismemberment mode.
It is also worth noting that KRAFTON removed the Denuvo tamper protection technology in March 2024, so that is another cool thing to keep in mind.
