Another week, another generous helping of freebies on the Epic Games Store. It’s impossible not to appreciate a few free games, and the folks at Epic regularly provide you with free new titles. Right now, there’s a brand new release out in the form of a chaotic spaceship shooter Cygni: With all weapons at the ready alongside the anime fighting game DNF Duel.
The fact that there’s a brand new release as one of Epic’s free games this week is excellent in itself. But Cygni is one of the most intriguing space games of the year, and it looks like a real blast. You’ll pilot a spaceship and try to take out relentless hordes of ground and air enemies in classic shoot-’em-up style. You’ll also take the fight to lunar landscapes, futuristic metropolises, and the vast void of space.
During combat, you’ll need to skillfully shift your ship’s power supply between your shields and your various weapons. As you dash around and dodge attacks, be sure to use up energy, which can give you more power.
While you’ll encounter huge hordes of standard enemies in each level, Cygni also features some extremely impressive boss battles against giant enemies. Not only can you tackle these alone, but the game also supports local co-op, so you can bring a friend or family member along too.
The most striking thing about Cygni, however, is the visual effects. Look at how far Space Invaders has come, right? Everything is fluid, vibrant, and the designs of the environments and enemies are truly stunning.
As mentioned, Cygni is not alone in giving away freebies this week. The fighting game DNF Duel can also be claimed for free right now.
This 2.5D brawler game may not be quite as popular as Street Fighter and Tekken, but with a roster of 16 unique characters, some stunning backgrounds, and both competitive online modes and story content, there’s plenty for fighting game fans to enjoy.
You can claim Cygni and DNF Duel for free on the Epic Games Store until Thursday, August 15th. Head to the EGS store to pick them up while you can.
