The Bookseller – News – Ellie Pilcher, former head of fiction marketing at Bonnier, launches freelance business

Award-winning marketer and novelist Ellie Pilcher has branched out as a freelance marketing consultant and content writer after working as Head of Fiction Marketing at Bonnier Books UK.

After ten years of in-house experience, her new company will focus on “honest, collaborative and creative marketing, supporting clients – both publishers and authors – at every stage of the publishing process – from frontlist to backlist and beyond,” says Pilcher.

She is currently working with Transworld Penguin Random House and the Empowered Author Community, and is involved in planning events for a new literary space: Literature at The Lantern.

“The last few weeks have been exciting because I’ve started a new business. Every day has presented an exciting opportunity,” said Pilcher. “From author coaching and supporting self-published authors to building traditional marketing campaigns with established publishers and planning events in a stunning new literary environment.”

Pilcher has previously worked at Avon, HarperCollins and Canelo. Her work has won five Book Marketing Society awards, including her marketing campaign for Days in the Morisaki Bookstore by Satoshi Yagisawa (Bonnier Books UK) won the 2023 Best Debut Campaign award, which contributed to its nomination for Debut Book of the Year at the 2024 British Book Awards.

At the London Book Fair’s Trailblazer Awards in 2020, Pilcher launched an online mentoring business, #MarketYourMarketing, during the pandemic, with up to 500 live attendees per event, offering coaching to publishing hopefuls, authors and professionals. Her coaching recently moved to her TikTok channel @eleanorpilcher, with a growing platform of more than 12,000 followers. She is also a traditionally published author, with her second novel That’s what she said Published by HarperCollins US in April 2025.

Pilcher added: “As a traditionally published author, I have a unique perspective and understanding of the needs of authors and publishers, and I’m excited to put that perspective into practice: developing compelling digital campaigns, revitalizing backlists to give more to their creators, and laying creative foundations for unstoppable author brands.”
