The Bachelorette: Devin Strader seeks Jesse Palmer’s advice during emotional Fantasy Suite week

Devin Strader sought advice from host Jesse Palmer during Fantasy Suite week on Monday’s episode of “The Bachelorette” on ABC.

The 28-year-old contestant struggled with doubts about his relationship with Jenn Tran, 26, after she did not reciprocate his declaration of love in Hawaii.

Sitting alone at a bar at the Fairmont Orchid after his overnight date with Jenn, Devin admitted to feeling “numb.”

“You can only love someone like that for so long without the love coming back before it just… and that scares me because I’m waiting for something that I don’t know if it’s going to come,” Devin, the owner of a Texas trucking company, said in a confessional.

“So I really don’t know what to do here. And I really need some guidance on this. And, you know, just someone to talk to and get it all out,” he added.

“Devin, what’s up, man?” said 45-year-old Jesse as he appeared out of nowhere at the bar.

They exchanged greetings and Jesse revealed that he had been thinking of Devin.

“Yeah. I heard you were having a little trouble,” said Jesse, who appeared in the fifth season of The Bachelor in 2004.

“Yeah, man, just a little bit. Um, I have a lot of difficult, difficult thoughts, you know, going back and forth in my head about a lot of different things. And I was really, really excited about my overnight date,” Devin said.

Devin added that he “needed to feel the love back,” and Jesse admitted that he “wanted that love returned.”

“You know, I’ve been waiting to hear something this time to help me through this process,” Devin said.

Devin said he wanted to ask Jenn if she loved him as much as he loved her, but didn’t want to pressure her during their overnight date.

“You know, I didn’t want to scare her with my true feelings about how bad I feel inside,” Devin said.

“You can only love someone like that for so long without the love coming back before it just… and that scares me because I’m waiting for something that I don’t know if it’s coming,” Devin, a freight company owner from Texas, said in a confessional.

“Did you get any kind of encouragement from her?” Jesse asked.

“I tell her I love her, and she says, ‘Well, I can see a future together.’ You know, and that’s great, you know? But that’s not how I feel in that moment. When I left that moment, left that room, I didn’t feel complete, and when I left, I told her again that I love her, and… nothing. And it hurts me because I keep giving and giving and giving, and she’s growing from it, but I’m withering away,” Devin said.

Jesse told Devin that he was the giver and Devin started to cry.

“I kept quiet about what was bothering me. You know, I regret that. Even though I would never have given her an ultimatum. I just needed to know that she loved me too,” Devin said in a confessional.

Jesse said he was sorry Devin was feeling so bad.

“When you give so much, you just want a little something back. I understand that. I completely understand that,” Jesse said.

Jesse added, “You just have to hang in there. Jenn is someone you want to fight for every day. I mean, could you really stop now?”

Devin said in a confessional that he didn’t want to leave Jenn, but that she should tell him if she had certain feelings.

“I feel like I’m slipping away here, and my gut is completely different from my heart, and you can love someone and not have them love you back. And that’s the realization, you know, here. Um, I just feel completely lost. I can’t go on. I can’t do this anymore,” he said.

Devin said he needed to talk to Jenn and was shown walking alone down a long hallway to her hotel room.

“You know, I’m scared. This is the one time I’m going to be brutally honest, and I hope she can accept that. Now I’m doubting myself. This is probably the end of me, and it scares me to no end,” Devin told the camera.

Then Devin was shown knocking on Jenn’s door.

“Hey,” Jenn said with a smile as the episode ended.

The episode began with Devin’s overnight date, where he and Jenn first enjoyed a helicopter ride over Hawaii.

During dinner, Devin talked about his fears and insecurities. “Sometimes I have a hard time accepting something good when I see it,” Jenn admitted. “I know you are something good. And it scares me to fully commit to it because I know that if I fully commit to it, it will become true.”

Devin told Jenn that she was worth the wait, but told the cameras about his frustration.

“You know, it’s like she’s done a good job of showing that she really cares about me. But I’d like to hear the big L. You know, I’d like to hear that in response. It’s important to me,” he said.

They both agreed to the overnight date and were happy the next morning.

Next, Jenn had a date with Jonathon Johnson, 27, a creative director from Kansas City, Missouri, and they ate some local treats and enjoyed a private date by the waterfall.

“When I’m with him, I feel fun and flirty. It’s so easy to be myself with him and have fun and laugh at anything and everything,” Jenn said.

They also decided to spend the night together in the Fantasy Suite.

“I see the picture of me getting down on one knee. I see the confidence I have in what we have and I could see this turning into something absolutely incredible,” Jonathon said.

Marcus, 32, an Army Ranger veteran, and Jenn went swimming with manta rays at night.

“I’m in love with Marcus. I’ve felt that for a few weeks now,” Jenn confessed on camera.

However, at dinner, Marcus expressed his insecurities.

“I’m not in love with Jenn right now. I just find it scary to tell someone something they probably don’t want to hear,” he admitted.

“I would be lying if I didn’t tell you that I’m in love with you. And the way you make me feel and how we’ve had so many moments where I can’t even explain it, but I felt so comfortable with you and so close to you,” Jenn told him.

Marcus was visibly moved by her words and said, “It means the world to me that you just said that. I think the most important thing I want to say to you is that even though I’m not ready yet, I wouldn’t be sitting in front of you right now if I didn’t believe it was possible.”

They decided to spend the night in the Fantasy Suite, and the next morning Marcus felt more confident about their relationship.

The Bachelorette returns on Tuesday with the special episode “Men Tell All.”
