PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – More people were active in Pittsburgh on Saturday and all for a good cause.

Family and friends of a young woman who lost her life kept her memory alive at the Jessie Games.

More than 500 people came to the AHN Sports Complex to show their support for the event.

The event is held each year in memory of Jessie Smith, who died in 2013 at the age of 23. Her family said sports played a big role in her life, from basketball to lacrosse to cross country.

The Jessie Games not only provide a day of fun, but also raise money for Catholic Charities of Pittsburgh.

“We sat down with them and some other people and came up with the idea of having the games,” said Jessie’s father, Matt. “It was just going to be a day of fun, kind of like a big family picnic, and it’s evolved from there. We have races, a diving pool, obstacle courses and stuff, and the kids have fun. It’s kind of a twist on the Olympics, but it’s just a day where kids can have fun that maybe wouldn’t normally have that.”

The Jessie Games took place for the 11th time this year.
