Texas QB Quinn Ewers talks about his connection to Vince Young: “Good juice!”

AUSTIN – Vince Young continues to have an impact on the Forty Acres long after his legendary playing career ended.

The former Texas Longhorns quarterback has been a constant presence on campus since retiring from the NFL. Last season, he even stopped by a team practice at Denius Fields, where he called out some players from the sidelines for an apparent lack of effort. It’s tough love from a Longhorns legend who wants nothing more than to see the team return to the championship heights it reached at the 2006 Rose Bowl.

Arguably his most important contribution to the program since his retirement, however, is his current impact on Texas’ quarterback staff, something Longhorns star Quinn Ewers addressed in an exclusive interview with Texas Longhorns on SI.

“He definitely knows what it’s like to win a national championship and he’s got that in the bag, so you just listen to what he has to say,” Ewers told Texas Longhorns on SI. “And how he’s handled his situation day to day and gotten the job done is always good to hear. But he’s also always been super, super encouraging to me and Arch (Manning), and it’s good to have him in the facility. He’s just the guy that’s always upbeat and has positive vibes, so it’s always good to have him around.”

In a recent post on Instagram, Young revealed that he met with Ewers and Manning at DKR. The photo quickly spread like wildfire among Texas fans on social media.

“Me and my UT QB brothers @quinn_ewers @archmanning celebrating our little nephew Jaxson Arnold’s birthday and getting ready for an outstanding UT season!!! Hook’Em,” Young wrote in the caption.

Take a look at this:

Young played three seasons under Texas coach Mack Brown, leading the Longhorns to a memorable BCS National Championship win over USC at the end of the 2005 season. A few months later, he was selected by the Tennessee Titans with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. He set several program records at Texas and is one of only six Longhorns whose jersey number has been retired.

Don’t be surprised if Young finds himself on the bench regularly this season, both at home and (some) away games.
