Tennessee couple charged with locking 7-year-old autistic boy in closet with urine-soaked blankets – Crime Online

A Tennessee man and woman were arrested last week and charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect and child endangerment after police found evidence that the couple locked a 7-year-old autistic boy in a storage chest with urine-soaked blankets and a pillow.

Carter County officials on Thursday assisted the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in executing an arrest warrant for Sean David Moody, 39, who was accused of abusing his mentally disabled sister. He was taken into custody on a charge of abuse of a vulnerable person, the TBI said, while state troopers and officers executed a search warrant on the home.

“A search of the home revealed unsanitary living conditions,” said Carter County Sheriff’s Investigator Preston White. “Exposed wires were found in several electrical outlets, and animal and human feces were discovered on the flooring.”

“Information we received during the initial investigation led to the discovery of a brown storage chest in the living room,” White said. “The chest contained urine-soaked blankets, a pillow, half-eaten pizza and clothing that contained a substance consistent with blood.”

As investigators discovered, the seven-year-old boy, who could not speak, was locked in the trunk with groceries.

Officers notified Child Protective Services and arrested Sean Moody and Mikki Dee Moody (36) for child abuse.

Both Moodys were booked into the Carter County Detention Center and Mikki Moody was later released on $75,000 bail. Sean Moody remains behind bars on $75,000 bail for child abuse and $10,000 bail for abuse of a vulnerable adult.

The sheriff’s office did not provide any information about what happened to the abused child or whether there were other children in the home.
