Tarrant County Sheriff’s Officers Catch Alligator in Viral Video

Tarrant County Sheriff’s Officers Catch Alligator in Viral Video

A video posted on social media on Wednesday showed Tarrant County Sheriff’s officers relocating an alligator from a road to a waterway.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Robbie Hoy said via email that the alligator was spotted Sunday in the 9900 block of Boat Club Road near Eagle Mountain Lake. A resident called authorities when Mr. Gator, as the reptile is called in the video caption, got too close to homes.

The video, set to pop singer Sabrina Carpenter’s song “Taste,” shows three deputies and a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officer using a pole to capture the wild reptile. After being grabbed by the neck, the animal thrashes around and snaps its jaws at the deputies, who lead it off the road.

They use a second catch pole to close the alligator’s mouth. After Mr. Gator is safely restrained, the officers and the park ranger carry him off the road. The officers drag the reptile to a waterway before releasing the restraints and sending Mr. Gator on his way.

Hoy said the alligator was released into a waterway that leads to the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge south of the lake.

In recent years, alligators have been spotted at the Nature Center, Eagle Mountain Lake, the Trinity River, and even in Coppell. Although Texas is home to half a million alligators, most of them are concentrated in the eastern and southern parts of the state. However, they occasionally come to North Texas and are native to this area.

The video posted on the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office’s social media pages states that no officers or alligators were injured in the incident.
