Supergirl proves she is just as legendary as Hercules with an incredible award

Summary

  • Supergirl’s intergalactic legend status is cemented in epic poems and surpasses even that of Superman.
  • Supergirl’s fight with the brigands was immortalized as ”
    Battle of Capes
” in epic poems is a tremendous honor.
  • Tom King
    Supergirl
Run frees Kara from Superman’s shadow and presents her as a formidable heroine.

Supergirl Kara Zor-El has achieved a legendary status comparable to that of Hercules and deserves an honor that even Superman has not yet received. What’s special about this new award is that it could prove that the Maiden of Might is even more intergalactically famous than her cousin – a revelation that will no doubt surprise some fans.

Supergirl’s status now surpasses that of earthly heroes and marks her as a figure of cosmic fame.

Tom King, Bilquis Evely and Mat Lopes have once again taken Kara to new heights in their Supergirl: The Woman of Tomorrow (2021–2022). In issue #7, Kara faces off against the Brigands, a ruthless society of genocidal pirates wreaking havoc across the galaxy.

Although the battle is fierce and momentous, it is Ruthye Marye Knoll’s retrospective narration that really highlights Supergirl’s legendary status. Through Ruthye’s account Kara’s confrontation with the brigands is immortalized as “Battle for the Capes” a clash that would become the subject of numerous epic poems– an honor as monumental as anything that could have been bestowed on Hercules himself.

Supergirl achieves intergalactic legendary status by becoming the subject of numerous epic poems

Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow #7 Pirate Fight

In her story, Ruthye notes: “From this, of course, developed the famous Battle of Capes, which is the subject of many beautiful, but also some sordid, epic poems.” This remark doesn’t just elevate Supergirl to the status of a Herculean legend; it elevates her beyond it. While on Earth Hercules is generally associated with epic poetry and heroism, the legend of Supergirl has expanded to intergalactic dimensions. Her status now transcends that of Earthly heroes, making her a figure of cosmic fame.

As impressive as it is that Supergirl is the subject and inspiration for several galaxy-wide epic poems, Ruthye injects a little humor by quoting some embarrassing lines: “The yellow of their hair, the red of their lips; the wreckage and destruction of every ship.” While the idea of being immortalized in such great works is undeniably coolone can easily imagine Kara wincing at these overly flowery lines. Although “the sinking and ruin of every ship” is undeniably badass, the rest of the verse might feel over the top. Despite its inherent awkwardness, this remains a great honor for Supergirl.

Tom King Supergirl: The Woman of Tomorrow Run: Kara has officially been freed from Superman’s shadow

This honor of inspiring several epic poems known throughout the galaxy is just one of many examples in Kings Supergirl: The Woman of Tomorrow who will free Kara from her cousin’s shadow. Since Superman is such an iconic hero both in the DCU and in the eyes of fans, it was an almost impossible task for King to portray Kara as more than just “Superman’s cousin.“But through the presentation Supergirls Successes and recognizing her own merit in such an amazing way, King has allowed readers to see Kara as a distinct and impressive heroine in the DCU, free from Superman’s Shadow.
