Sumter police arrest 15-year-old after another teen injured in shooting

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – Sumter Police announced the arrest of a 15-year-old involved in a domestic violence-related shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched after 2:45 p.m. Wednesday when they found the 18-year-old victim injured by a gunshot wound on Ash Street. He was in stable condition Thursday morning after being flown to a Columbia hospital.

Information gathered in the case indicates the victim was parked in front of a residence on Barwick Street when his vehicle was shot at, police said. Officers said he tried to drive away, crashed and then ran to Ash Street, where police were called.

According to police, the shooter fled the scene on Barwick Street but was tracked down and arrested by officers.

The 15-year-old’s name has not been released due to his age; he is being held in a state juvenile justice facility.

Officials said he was charged with attempted murder, possession of a handgun by a person under 18 and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

According to Sumter police, the investigation is ongoing.
