Stunning Sydney McLaughlin leads triple athletics victory on epic night as stunned fans say ‘USA isn’t playing’

The US team swept the athletics field again in Paris and continued its dominance – despite Noah Lyles’ failed 200-meter attempt.

The American team won three of the five competitions at the Stade de France on Thursday evening, extending its incredible haul.

And it could have been four if Letsile Tebogo from Botswana had not beaten Kenneth Bednarek and Lyles in the 200-meter race.

Lyles, 27, ran the race due to Covid and missed the chance to add that title to the 100m crown he won on Sunday.

But Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone left the field behind a few moments later with a world record and won the 400-meter hurdles.

Her expected showdown with Dutchwoman Femke Bol never materialized, as American Anna Cockrell finished a distant second.

At the end of the evening on the track, the USA once again took a double victory in gold and silver in the men’s 100-meter hurdles.

Grant Holloway stormed away from the field and won gold ahead of his US teammate Daniel Roberts.

America won the third gold medal of the evening at the Stade de France in the women’s long jump.

Tara Davis-Woodhall was crowned Olympic champion, while fellow American Jasmine Moore also took bronze.

In total, the USA won eight medals in five athletics events on Thursday, three of which were gold.

The athletics team’s total haul was 27 medals – nine gold medals, ten silver medals and eight bronze medals.

“We are not finished yet,” Shannon Sharpe warns the Jamaican sprint team before the 200 m and the relays after Noah Lyles’ epic victory

The next highest-ranked team had six medals after Thursday’s game, while Canada (two gold medals) was the only other nation with more than one gold medal.

“The USA doesn’t play track and field. We collect medals one at a time. Wow! Go Team USA,” said one fan on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The USA track and field team is taking home all the gold medals tonight,” posted another.

There are still two days left in the athletics program and there are still chances for a medal.

Both 4×100-meter relay teams completed their heats on Thursday without any problems and will fight for gold on Friday.
