WEATHER HEADLINES

  • The main problem areas are central and southern Kentucky
  • Threats: Destructive winds, large hail
  • Persistent rain showers on Sunday before a quiet working week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Areas of dense fog should clear shortly after sunrise. Our focus then turns to the threat of strong to severe storms this afternoon.

A WARNING DAY is in effect from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. for damaging winds and hail, especially in Kentucky. Storm activity will move south and east of our area Saturday night, so our storm threat and warning day will end around 8 p.m. The rest of the evening will be quieter, aside from a slight chance of rain.

Lows will settle at 15 degrees Celsius on Sunday morning. More fog is possible on Sunday morning, but it should quickly clear after sunrise. As the low pressure system responsible for Saturday’s storms slowly moves east, we can expect a few pesky afternoon showers. Don’t cancel your plans for an outdoor trip on Sunday! The showers will taper off Sunday evening, giving way to partly cloudy skies overnight. Expect lows around 15 degrees Celsius.

Once we’ve gotten past this weekend’s unsettled weather, another early fall preview awaits us next week! Highs will remain between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius from Monday to Wednesday with mostly sunny skies.

On Tuesday, the weather is perfect for visiting your WAVE News team at the Kentucky State Fair! The typical August heat and humidity returns late next week, but the forecast looks fairly dry for now.
