Mumbai: Get ready for a cinematic spectacle as Bollywood’s reigning king Shah Rukh Khan teams up with his sons Aryan Khan and AbRam Khan for the Hindi version of Disney’s much-anticipated film, Mufasa: The Lion King.
The film is scheduled to hit Indian theatres on December 20 and promises to add an extra level of grandeur to the popular story of the ultimate jungle monarch.
The latest installment in the Lion King saga, directed by Barry Jenkins, explores the origins of Mufasa, the legendary lion who has captured hearts across generations.
The Hindi trailer for the upcoming film was shared by Disney Films India on its official social media channels.
“The King @iamsrk is back as Mufasa, with #AryanKhan and #AbRamKhan by his side. Mufasa: The Lion King hits theaters December 20th,” the caption read.
Shah Rukh Khan returns to the iconic role of Mufasa, reprising the character that has become synonymous with royal authority and wisdom.
Aryan Khan will lend his voice to Simba, Mufasa’s son, while the youngest Khan, AbRam, will take on the role of young Mufasa.
In a press release from the Disney team, Shah Rukh Khan said, “Mufasa has an incredible legacy and is the ultimate king of the jungle, passing on his wisdom to his son Simba. I can really relate to him as a father and I can really relate to Mufasa’s journey in the film. ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ shows Mufasa’s life from childhood to his rise to become an incredible king and the revival of this character has been extraordinary.”
“It’s special to me to be working with Disney, especially because my sons Aryan and AbRam are part of this journey and it really means a lot to me to share this experience with them,” he said.
Bikram Duggal, Studio Head, Disney Star, also expressed his excitement in a press release shared by the Disney team: “The fierce Mufasa is more than just a fictional character; he embodies a spirit that inspires generations, a quality that Disney strives to convey with every story. When Mufasa: The Lion King was announced, we couldn’t imagine anyone other than Shah Rukh Khan and Aryan Khan returning to our family entertainment program as Mufasa and Simba. The film, enhanced with photorealistic CGI and live-action techniques, delves into Mufasa’s past and charts his rise from orphaned boy to the respected king of the Pride Lands. The story features a number of new and beloved characters, further enhanced by the talents of Lin-Manuel Miranda, who contributed original songs to the soundtrack.
