Spurs legend lists all the reasons why Michael Jordan is the GOAT

The GOAT debate will always be a hot topic of discussion in the NBA community as fans always find their own reasons to justify their choice. While fans may not be able to agree on a name, former NBA players and legends often boil the decision down to one name. San Antonio Spurs legend Avery Johnson is the latest addition to the list of former icons who consider Michael Jordan to be the greatest player of all time.

Johnson recently appeared on the show with Mark Jackson and his son Bluu Come and talk to meDuring the episode, Jackson wanted to know who Avery’s GOAT pick was. This is what the former Spurs player had to say:

“We can really reduce all the numbers. You can even do an eye test, but everyone else is way behind Mike (Michael Jordan). And that is not disrespectful at all.”

Johnson played in the NBA for 16 years and then moved into coaching, so the Spurs legend has been in the game for a long time. But after seeing Jordan in person, Avery had to give the GOAT title to the Bulls legend.

He then listed the reasons why he preferred MJ over others who had also achieved great things.

“When you win six championships and you’re the MVP of all six, you never get to Game Seven. And all the DPOYs, the First-Team All-Defense, the First-Team All-NBA, MVPs, the regular-season MVPs.”

Johnson also mentioned another lesser known stat about Jordan. MJ played with the most free agents on one team and has the most championships in that segment. Johnson also mentioned that MJ had to go through the legendary teams Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons and Lakers.

MJ also beat the Jazz’s Stockton-Malone duo. Not to mention the Clyde Drexler-led Blazers team, which Johnson gave a good chance of winning a title.

When you put all that together, there is no player that can match what MJ has done, at least not Avery Johnson.
