SUMTER, SC (WOLO)– An 18-year-old was injured and a 15-year-old is in custody following a domestic violence-related shooting on Wednesday, Sumter police said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting on Wednesday and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound on Ash Street around 2:45 p.m.

Information gathered during the case indicates that the 18-year-old was parked in front of a house on Barwick Street when his vehicle was shot at, Sumter police said.

He tried to drive away, crashed and then ran to Ash Street, where the police were called.

On Thursday morning, he was listed in stable condition after being flown to a hospital in Columbia.

Investigators said the shooter fled the scene on Barwick Street and was later found by police and taken into custody.

The 15-year-old, whose name is not being disclosed due to age reasons, is being held in a state juvenile justice facility.

He is charged with attempted murder, possession of a handgun by a person under 18, and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
