Game overview: A big play by Lake Nona quarterback Michael Dove in the fourth quarter was the deciding factor in a very close game at Eagle Stadium last Friday. Dove completed a third-and-20 attempt to keep Lake Nona’s offense alive, which ended with a 12-yard touchdown run. South Lake led most of the evening and kept Dove and Co. at bay until midway through the third quarter. The Eagles took the lead first when kicker Chris McKenna made a 25-yard field goal that tied the first quarter 3-3. Tre Kelly completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Kendrick Powell on the second corner and the Eagles took a 9-3 lead into halftime. Kelly and Powell teamed up for some big plays multiple times throughout the game. Lake Nona scored twice in the third quarter to take a 17-9 lead into the fourth quarter. The Eagles advanced up the field in the fourth quarter, with Kelly passing to Powell, Tyger Darden, Izaiah Henderson and Marcel Walker. Kelly plunged in from the one-yard line to tie the score at 17-15. The Eagles failed to convert on a two-point conversion.

“We have to finish the drives. We were inside their 30-yard line four times and didn’t score. We can’t miss any extra points either.” The Eagles will regroup on Monday and prepare for their first home game against Natures Coast.
