(Burn City Sports) Eugenio Suarez’s big day completes Diamondbacks’ victory over Red Sox – Eugenio Suárez’s big day helped the Diamondbacks to a 7-5 victory over the Red Sox at Fenway Park to complete the Series sweep. Suárez collected four more hits, including a three-run home run in the sixth inning, giving him a Series total of eight hits, two home runs and 10 RBIs… Since July 1, no player in Major League Baseball has more than his 47 RBIs. That’s a remarkable turnaround for a player who struggled terribly through the first three months of the season. He has been a key hitter who has kept the lineup afloat in the absence of Ketel Marte, Christian Walker and Gabriel Moreno.

(AZ Central) DBacks win three games over Red Sox – His team — which won for the 36th time in 49 games, which took the lead in the National League wild-card race and which is now within striking distance of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the division — has looked like one of the best teams in baseball for some time. Is it time, Lovullo was asked, for people to start calling the Diamondbacks that? “Hopefully at the end of the year we can say we are,” he said. “I think there’s a lot of confidence in the locker room. They know what they can do every day. It shows.”

(Dbacks.com) Best team in MLB? D-backs extend winning streak with Fenway win – The D-backs’ nine-game, 11-day road trip didn’t start well, losing the first three games to the Rays. “You start 0-3 and you’re curious to see where you’re going to be on day four,” said D-backs manager Torey Lovullo. “They put to rest any questions that anyone could have had.” They certainly did, because the D-backs went to Miami and swept the Marlins. That was just the beginning. On Sunday, they extended their winning streak with a 7-5 victory from a six-game deficit to complete their three-game sweep of the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

About the team

Table updateThe Dodgers beat the Rays and, like the D-backs, the Padres came back to beat the Mets. That leaves the NL West standings unchanged, with Los Angeles three games ahead of Arizona and San Diego 1.5 games behind. But with the Mets, Braves and Giants all losing, more room opened up in the race for the NL wildcards. Arizona holds the lock there, again 1.5 games ahead of the Padres. But third-place Atlanta has dropped to 4.5 games and New York, the first team outside of a wildcard spot, is now seven games behind Arizona. Fangraphs projects the Diamondbacks to win 91 games and have a 96.7 percent chance of making the playoffs, though their odds of winning the NL West are still just 11.9 percent.

(Boston Globe) Diamondbacks give Red Sox blueprint for getting young pitchers – “We’re in a position as an organization where we can’t just sit still. We have to take risks,” Hazen said. “We try to take calculated risks, but you still have to take risks. And I think some of those risks are trading good players. Nobody is cheating anyone else. Everyone is smart. If you’re going to get a deal done in a lot of cases, you have to be able to give up value. Sometimes that’s painful, because there are a lot of players I’ve traded that I wish I hadn’t traded. (But) sometimes you have to take those risks.”

(SI) Diamondbacks and Astros on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball on September 8 – The Arizona Diamondbacks and Houston Astros have been two of baseball’s most competitive teams in the second half of the season. That’s why ESPN has selected the game between the two teams scheduled for September 8 to be broadcast on its Sunday Night Baseball program. The game will be played at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The broadcast begins at 4 p.m. Arizona time, 7 p.m. EST. It is an ESPN exclusive broadcast. MLB.TV/Dbacks.TV subscribers must watch the game on ESPN. Sunday Night Baseball is also available on the ESPN app, ESPN Deportes and ESPN Radio.

(Herald) Jordan Montgomery says ‘Boras kind of blew his free agency’ – Montgomery acknowledged he would have been interested in signing with the Red Sox, but expressed disappointment in how his former agent, Scott Boras, handled his free agency. “I had a Zoom call with (the Red Sox), that’s really all I know. It went well,” Montgomery said. “I don’t know, obviously Boras kind of blew it, so I’m just trying to put the offseason behind me and forget about it.” Montgomery was one of four Boras clients expected to land big free agency deals this past offseason… All remained unsigned well into the offseason and all ended up having to settle for short-term contracts that fell far short of their expectations.

And elsewhere…

(CBS) Babe Ruth’s iconic New York Yankees jersey sells for $24 million at auction – The jersey that legendary New York Yankees slugger Babe Ruth wore when he called his shot before hitting a home run to center field during the 1932 World Series sold for $24,120,000. “In the realm of sports collectibles, this is the greatest sports collectible of all time,” Chris Ivy of Heritage Auctions told CBS Mornings before the auction. The only time the jersey was sold publicly was over 20 years ago – and it went for $975,000. “People said the buyer was crazy to pay a million dollars for, well, an old baseball jersey. But at the end of this auction, he’s going to look like a very smart man,” Ivy said.

(The Onion) White Sox Promotion puts first 9 fans in the ballpark in the starting lineup – Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf (added) that each of the fans will receive a free hat, pair of cleats and scouting reports before representing the White Sox against the best players in the Major Leagues. “Fans should try to get there as early as possible because the very first person we see in the parking lot will be pitched to the mound for a chance to pitch seven innings as our starting pitcher while an honors student from a local school fulfills his dreams of the big leagues by managing the team.” (H/T Wes)

(USA Today) Danny Jansen will make MLB history by playing in one game for the Red Sox and Blue Jays – Danny Jansen started as catcher for the Toronto Blue Jays on June 26 in Boston. Two months later, he’ll keep it up on the side of history. Jansen, now with the Red Sox, will become the first baseball player to ever start for both teams in one game when Boston and Toronto resume their previously suspended play on Monday. Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed Friday that Jansen will be Boston’s catcher when the teams reconvene. (Even stranger: He was at bat when play was suspended, so he’ll now catch the at-bat he started!)

Alien: Romulus (2024)

Rating: B-
Director: Fede Álvarez
Cast: Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced

also known Stupid young people in space. No, really: I think the last time I saw so many stupid teenagers in orbit was probably Jason X. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as it’s in keeping with the franchise’s return to its horror roots, which I’m happy to support. The last few entries seem to have become increasingly preoccupied with building some sort of Alien Extended Universe, forgetting that what made the first two films such cultural milestones was much simpler: gross-out monsters. Let’s be honest, aside from the Predator Crossovers, none of the directors posts Aliens loved horror films, least of all Ridley Scott. Álvarez is much more into the genre, and it shows.
