Goltra fire burns 10 acres west of Golden in Clear Creek Canyon

Firefighters battled a wildfire called the Goltra Fire near Lookout Mountain on Tuesday. The fire raged above Highway 6 west of Golden.

In an update, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the fire was 10 acres in size and there was no danger. On Tuesday evening, Highway 6 (Clear Creek Canyon Road) was closed in the fire area.

By late afternoon, the fire was emitting smoke that could be seen from Cheesman Park in Denver.

The sheriff’s office believes lightning was a likely cause of the fire. The Golden Gate Fire Protection District led the ground response. Crews had to walk to reach the flames.

The fire was raging in a remote area with limited road access. The CBS News Colorado helicopter was able to fly over the scene where there were no homes or buildings in the immediate vicinity.
