“Skincare” brings Elizabeth Banks into the world of thrillers

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Elizabeth Banks hits the box office this weekend with the new thriller “Skincare.”

She plays a beauty expert whose reputation is massively “tarnished” by someone who wants to ruin her.

Banks plays a beautician who has put everything into her business and is about to launch her own product line.

“‘Skincare’ is about a woman aging in an industry that values beauty, youth and newness above all else,” said Banks. “And as a middle-aged actress in Hollywood, I could relate to that.”

In the film, someone decides out of the blue to ruin her reputation, her business and her life. But who? And why?

You may sense their desperation when you watch the film.

“As I was reading it, I felt this despair,” Banks said.

“I think this character is incredible,” she added. “I think she’s really representative of the times we’re in. We all feel like the world is passing us by. It’s going too fast, we can’t keep up.”

“Skincare” is actually inspired by a true story. Banks made sure she knew her stuff.

“I’ve been teaching a lot,” she said. “And I’ve been practicing on my family, too, and I still give my sons facials sometimes at night before they go to bed. My youngest, especially, will come in and ask me for a facial, like, ‘Mommy, can I have one of your facials before I go to sleep?’ And I love it.

“I love the connection with them and I honestly love being able to talk to my prepubescent sons about hygiene because it’s becoming more and more important in my house.”

“Skincare” is rated “R.” The film is in theaters now.
