Sixteen-year-old teenager from Selma brain dead after shooting

Selma police are investigating a shooting that left a 16-year-old boy brain dead.

Police Chief Kenta Fulford said the shooting occurred around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday evening in the 2900 block of Citizens Parkway.

Waka Selma7murder0822 Package“Upon arrival, they encountered a 16-year-old juvenile who had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He was then transported to Vaughn Emergency Room where he was placed in a helicopter and flown to UAB Hospital,” Fulford said.

Fulford initially confirmed the teenager’s death, but later said the teenager was brain dead as a result of his injuries.

He says investigators are continuing their investigation.

“At this point, we have no suspects and we don’t know what the motive is. But investigators are currently out searching for people in the area. Hopefully someone will come forward and let us know if they see anything,” Fulford said.
