Sioux Falls confidently goes into the game that has to be won at the Little League World Series

WILLIAMSPORT, PA (Dakota News Now) – For the children of the Sioux Falls Little League team, the World Series in Williamsport was the best summer vacation of their lives.

If they want to extend that deadline, they’ll have to win an elimination game tomorrow. And perhaps to their parents’ chagrin, they’ve proven they’re pretty good at putting off school supplies shopping during this postseason!

The team was back on the practice fields in Williamsport today to prepare for tomorrow’s game against Metro Champion Staten Island.

Sioux Falls is familiar with this situation, having lost in both the state and regional tournaments. They sit at 6-0 heading into elimination, so it’s easy to see why head coach Nick Kortan is confident his team will bounce back.

They still have a lot of good pitchers at their disposal, so the question is whether the Bats can return to their form after managing just two hits in their 2-1 loss to Florida on Wednesday.

“We still have two of our best players available, so I’m confident we’ll be there from a pitching standpoint. If we can continue to defend like we have been, I’m confident our bats will come alive. We faced a heck of a pitcher, he challenged us and we just didn’t get the hits when we needed them, but we’ll be ready for the next round,” Kortan said.

Sioux Falls and Staten Island will face off on Saturday at 2 p.m. CST. The winner will face Great Lakes Region champion Hinsdale, Illinois in another elimination game on Sunday at 8 a.m.
