Shooting in southwest Baltimore: 42-year-old woman in critical condition

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the indictment of Oliver Schor, 22, and Christopher Fernandez, 28, both residents of Sound Beach, on charges including first-degree murder in connection with the killing of 49-year-old Michael Hartmann in Bohemia.

The tragic incident, which authorities described as a case of mistaken identity, occurred on November 2, 2022. Hartmann, a family man and local resident, was fatally shot in his home when the rifle-armed defendant attempted to enter through the back door and encountered him. The defendants subsequently fled the scene in a vehicle owned by Schor’s mother.

“This case involves the heartbreaking loss of a beloved family man,” said District Attorney Tierney, expressing his condolences to the Hartmann family.

In addition to the charges related to the shooting, Fernandez is also accused of robbing a gas station attendant at an Exxon Mobil gas station in Manorville shortly before the murder.

Schor faces multiple charges, including one count of first-degree murder and two counts of premeditated murder. Fernandez is charged with one count of first-degree murder, among others. Both were remanded in custody pending their arraignment before Superior Court Judge Steven A. Pilewski on August 9, 2024.

Schor is scheduled to appear in court again on September 16, 2024. If convicted, he could face a life sentence. The case will continue to be prosecuted as the Suffolk County justice system seeks justice for the untimely death of Michael Hartmann.
