ATLANTA, Georgia (Atlanta News First) – Funeral plans have been announced for a Carroll County deputy who was killed in the line of duty.

Detective Taylor Bristow, 30, was shot while serving an arrest warrant on Don Rich Drive in Carrollton on Tuesday. He spent several days in intensive care before succumbing to his injuries.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said child abuse and animal cruelty cases were his “passion” as a deputy. He died while executing an arrest warrant in a child abuse case. The suspect shot both Bristow and himself.

Bristow leaves behind a wife, a son, a daughter, two brothers and a sister.

The sheriff’s office said his dogs, Bo Duke and Daisy Duke, were “his buddies the whole time.”

According to the sheriff’s office, Bristow’s funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on August 29 at Mount Holly Church in Carrollton. The family will “receive friends” at the church on August 28 from 4 to 8 p.m.

Internment will take place at a later date.

West Georgia First Responders operates the only legitimate fundraising website for the family, the sheriff’s office said.
