Sheriff of Jackson County, Illinois, announces Labor Day traffic safety campaign

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) – The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has launched a traffic safety campaign to reduce impaired and dangerous driving.

According to the sheriff’s office, this high-profile enforcement initiative will run from August 16 through the early hours of September 3 and will include Labor Day weekend, using messages such as “Drive sober or you’ll get pulled over,” “If you feel different, drive differently,” “Drive high, get a DUI,” and “Click it or you’ll get a ticket.”

According to Sergeant Ronald Stanton, the purpose of the campaign is to remind people how important it is to stay safe while driving, even outside of the holidays.

“We want our community to understand the importance of making smart decisions behind the wheel on Labor Day and every other day,” Stanton said. “While our goal is voluntary compliance, drivers should expect that all traffic laws will be strictly followed on Jackson County roads every day.”

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois to support this statewide effort.

The sheriff’s office announced that the campaign will not only target impaired drivers, but will also highlight the “Click It or Ticket” initiative to emphasize the importance of wearing seat belts.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone planning to celebrate Labor Day weekend to designate a sober driver.
