Denise Van Outen’s daughter had to text her mother to ask if she would be taking part in this year’s season of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

The 49-year-old TV presenter admitted she has been inundated with messages more than ever this year asking if she would travel to the Australian jungle for the ITV show – and even her own daughter Betsy, 13, has been quizzing her about the programme at school.

During an episode of Steph’s Packed Lunch, the presenter asked Denise how she felt about being constantly associated with the ITV programme.

Presenter Steph McGovern said: “Every year there are rumours that you go into the jungle, aren’t there?”

Denise replied: “Every year! And I don’t know why this year more than ever everyone has been sending me messages from my phone: ‘Are you going to the jungle?’

Even my own daughter! She texted me at school.”

Sunday Brunch chef Simon Rimmer, who also appeared on the Channel 4 show, is keen to see the 49-year-old star on the show and insists she would be “funny”.

He said, “I’d still love to see you there. You’d be brilliant because you’d be fun.”

But Denise is not particularly keen on taking part in the dreaded Bushtucker Trials, especially the eating trials.

She said: “I did have one try though, I did one because I was doing the spin-off show. And I’m very brave but – yeah, no, I just didn’t do it – I’ve had enough… I was just going to say I’ve had enough anus to eat!”

Steph, who has suffered from irritable bowel syndrome since her teens, agreed with Denise and said she would also refuse to appear on the show because of the legal proceedings.

She explained: “That’s why I couldn’t do it. Can you imagine me with my bowels? You wouldn’t see me for the rest of the series because I’d be on that toilet!”

Denise then joked: “Stay away from the toilet!”
