After more than three decades of dominance in Indian cinema, Shah Rukh Khan has earned the title of King Khan and has an extensive filmography to back it up. However, SRK now has his sights set on becoming King of the Jungle as he lends his legendary voice to the popular character Mufasa for the Hindi dubbed release of Disneylatest live-action remake Mufasa – The Lion King.

The film is structured as a prequel to the 2019 hit The Lion Kingin which the story of Mufasa’s origins is revealed for the first time. Director: Barry JenkinsThe story connects the past and present by following young Mufasa on his journey to greatness – a story Disney hasn’t told before – and his inevitable destiny as ruler of King Rock, while also delving into Simba’s current reign.


In the new dubbed trailer for the film, Khan takes on the lead role as the title character, offering his raspy voice as he roars through the Pride Lands and wrestles with his younger brother Scar – who later becomes his greatest enemy. Khan’s voice is unmistakable, especially during the most emotional speeches, and displays the same obvious sincerity that audiences have loved for decades.

To give the project even more heart, SRK is supported by his sons Aryan Khanwho lends his voice to Simba, and Abram Khanthe voice behind Young Mufasa.


Shah Rukh Khan had a record year in 2023 with three major theatrical releases


Khan’s Bollywood legacy is largely rooted in romance. However, after a lifetime of wooing audiences, the actor made the decision to step away from that kind of role, partly because he felt too old for it and partly because he wanted to explore other avenues. Since then, SRK has had a successful few years, confidently securing a place for himself as an action hero and reviving his legacy in Indian cinema for generations to come. The series of theatre giants, including record-breaking epics Pathan, Provinceand the third of its theatrical releases in 2023 Dunkysaw the star set new box office records, only to then break them himself.

Mufasa reaffirms Khan’s commitment to expanding his extensive catalogue of over 100 films that showcase his versatility as an actor. The film is not the first time that SRK has stepped behind the screen and to the microphone for Disney as he previously lent his voice to the King of the Jungle in The Lion King back in 2019.

Mufasa – The Lion King hits theaters on December 20. Khan’s dubbed version hits Indian theaters the same day. You can watch a trailer for Khan’s version above.
