Several people arrested after fights at Chesterfield County Fair

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) – Several people were arrested after numerous altercations broke out at the Chesterfield County Fair.

At 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, officers on the scene were informed of possible fights between youths. Officers arrived at the scene and attempted to peacefully disperse the crowd.

When the fair gates closed as scheduled at 9pm, members of the crowd outside the gates became angry and attempted to force their way in. Fair staff decided to close the fair early for the evening. At this point, a youth was arrested for assaulting a fair staff member.

As the crowds reached the parking lots, more people began to gather and several fights broke out. Several police officers responded and ordered the crowds to disperse. Several police officers used pepper spray to break up the fights. During the events, another juvenile was arrested for assault on police officers and two adults were arrested outside the fairgrounds in similar incidents.

The Chesterfield Fire Department said EMS treated 13 people, 12 for pepper spray exposure and one for an arm injury. One male juvenile was transported by EMS for pepper spray exposure. The arrested juveniles were released to their parents at the scene. No police officers were injured.
